Can I contact my manager by text to report a sickness absence?

Main Content

No – the sickness absence and reporting procedures required employees to contact their manager by telephone. If you don’t call you should arrange for someone to do so on your behalf. You must call your manager as early as possible and no later than one hour of your start time. Staying in contact by text or email while you’re off sick is only permitted if you have agreed this with your manager. Failure to follow the correct process can mean you’ll lose pay for that day and be subject to disciplinary action.
